The Beginning
STEPS Home Care was founded in 2011 by Jennifer Martire Baukol, her sister Lisa Martire Wade, and Lisa’s husband, Shan Wade. STEPS Home Care is not only a family owned agency, but is also part of the Steps family of businesses, which also includes Steps Therapy and All Steps Home Care.
Origin Story
Steps Therapy was founded in 2007 by Lisa Martire Wade in San Francisco, CA. It provides consulting and educational services to families and children with developmental disabilities, such as Autism. Based on her success and the fulfillment Lisa experienced helping children and their families, our family decided caring for Seniors was the next logical step.
All Steps Home Care was founded in 2009 in Palm Beach, FL by a group that included Robert Martire and Lisa Martire Wade. They operate under the same philosophy, and often work with us to help Snowbirds maintain consistent care when sharing time between Florida and New York.
A Change
STEPS’ President, Shan Wade, saw the fulfillment his wife enjoyed as a result of her business. After an unfortunate home care experience with his Mom, he decided to change careers and help start and grow the company.
Jennifer and Lisa have deep roots in Westchester after growing up and now raising their families here. Starting a company in Westchester to help other families was a passion they shared. STEPS Home Care opened in White Plains in 2011, and now serves Westchester County, Fairfield County, Nassau County (Long Island), Riverdale and Manhattan.

At STEPS we partner with the entire family not just the individual. When you become a STEPS client you become part of the STEPS family.
“STEPS Home Care has provided 24-hour care for my 87-year-old mother. Their management team has been very hands-on throughout and has always been responsive to our needs and requests. The Caregivers have been professional and compassionate. The real test has been when there are the inevitable issues, usually over turnover, scheduling, replacements, etc. It seems that STEPS puts a lot of effort into recruiting and is able to re-staff or substitute when it’s needed. We don’t have a lot of experience to compare them to other agencies, but so far the experience has been much better than I would have thought.
